Do you ever find yourself fumbling with camera settings while a magical moment is passing you by?
This may sound obvious, but here’s the solution:
Set your camera settings BEFORE the moment happens!
- Are you taking your daughter out to ride her bike without training wheels for the first time?
- Are you about to play with your kids at the park?
- Is your son going to be blowing out the candles on his birthday cake later?
You may not know what will happen during each of these events, but there’s a good chance you’ll witness something magical, and when that moment happens you can be ready for it.
Once you reach the location where your event will take place, adjust your camera settings to get a great exposure in that scene, then do a test shot to make sure it works. As long as your lighting doesn’t change you won’t have to worry about capturing a proper exposure, and now you can concentrate more on capturing the right moment. Just set it, and forget it!
